On the 14th & 15th May the 2016 Surface Mine Emergency Response and Rescue competition was held in Kalgoorlie and was well supported by the mining community and their emergency response teams and service providers.
Teams are faced with challenging events including team skills, confined space rescue, hazardous chemicals, first aid, incident management scenarios and a theory assessment. Scenarios are designed around real incidents which have occurred or near misses. Although presented as a competition the event is a very important training exercise for the participating teams, who come away as more competent rescuers and form invaluable friendships.
This was the 25th anniversary of the 2 day competition and we would like to offer our congratulations to the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CMEWA) organising committee.
